Enjoy the Best Hunting and Fishing in Wales
Lake Country House is fortunate to be close to two of the best pheasant and partridge shooting locations in the UK.
These shoots, which are run by Hardwick Sporting, offer the perfect combination of fantastic scenery in the Welsh borders and challenging conditions making them an unforgottable experience.
The long-established business has been providing high-quality game birds for shooting for over 70 years, and it is one of the UK's top game farms - so we are more than happy to recommend it.
There are two shoots to choose from, Tregoyd and Llwyn Madoc, in South and Mid-Wales only a short distance from the hotel. These offer a variety of shooting in very testing conditions, making them ideal for more experienced shooters.
However, they cater to different ability levels from difficult high bird days to simple days out, so it does not matter what your ability level is.
The Tregoyd Shoot is located in stunning scenery between the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons. The partridge shooting season here begins in September, and the pheasant shooting in October, so book an autumnal stay at Lake Country House to enjoy the best of the shooting.
The terrain is varied and covers 3,000 acres of countryside. It's a very traditional shoot with high standards, making it incredibly popular.
The Llwyn Madoc Shoot provides challenging high pheasant shooting near the Cambrian Mountains. It's a testing shoot on steep ground set within 4,000 acres of countryside.
This beautiful wilderness is fabulous for exploring whether you are shooting or not.
If fishing is more your thing (or indeed another one of your hobbies), you're in luck. Fishing is very popular with many of our guests, and we are pleased to be able to provide truly wonderful fishing breaks in Wales.
Fly-fishing is abundant in the area, and we benefit from a well-stocked trout lake a short walk from the hotel. We are lucky to be surrounded by 50 acres of gentle rolling hills and woodland, offering you a beautiful environment to relax in.
The River Irfon, which is one of the River Wye's tributaries, also runs through our grounds and provides seven miles of fishing. This is particularly suitable for experienced anglers, and you can come along to try your luck catching trout, grayling, and salmon.
This is just the start of what we offer. You can venture beyond the hotel's grounds to explore the Wye and the Usk, which provide some of the UK's vest fishing. There are several locations in easy reach of the hotel.
And for anyone visiting with a partner who is not a fan of fishing, we offer Fishing and Spa Breaks - so you can cast out while they enjoy a pamper in the Kingfisher Spa.
Even a complete novice can enjoy a fishing holiday at Lake Country House.
We can set you up with a local fly-fishing guide who can teach you everything from the basics to developing your technique. Local anglers know the local rivers and lakes like no one else, you'll find their knowledge invaluable.
Learn how to stalk wild trout in upland streams, fish grayling on the river or try fly technique - with all equipment provided, including tackle and waders.
We would love to welcome you to stay at Lake Country House and enjoy some of the best shooting and fishing Wales has to offer.
